It was winter time. A couple from the UK planned to stay in Slovenia for a week or two to discover the tourist sites. They had already visited Ljubljana, the capital, and explored Lake Bled, the popular tourist spot with its surroundings. While having dinner at the hotel, they heard other guests speaking about kurenti. They wondered what they were talking and asked the receptionist. He explained that carnival time was approaching and that kurenti were the main attraction at the Ptuj carnival. They were part of the Slovenian folklore and very popular with locals and tourists. So the couple decided to travel to Ptuj to find out about the kurenti.
